A Day for Contemplation

Today, Tuesday 25th April, is ANZAC Day here in Australia. It's a day that is special in the hearts of people across this vast country. Today, most will give special thoughts to those they love and they will honour those who paved the road to freedom for us.
While sadness and a sense of loss pervades, there is also a sense of pride and achievement over what our loved ones sacrificed and are still sacrificing, to ensure that our way of life continues.
If my travels have taught me little else, they have confirmed my belief that here in Australia, in general, we are a privileged people, irrespective of our nationality or beliefs for we live free from the shackles of oppression: a condition that many in foreign lands can only imagine.
So today I will honour the valiant efforts of those, both current and past and ask a higher power to listen to the prayers of those in war-torn countries who are, on a daily basis, desperately trying to keep themselves and their families alive.
Many of these children have no concept of what freedom means. It is simply just another word.
We are indeed, a lucky country!
