Exceptional Art in the Most Unexpected Places
With curfews lifted and borders re-opening, many Australians are spreading their wings and travelling around this extraordinary and beautiful country. While a very young country, we do still have heritage buildings and natural wonders, many of which attract local visitors, as well as overseas visitors to this unique land of ours.
However, some rural communities have been brave enough to risk their budgets with the hope that they can entice a greater percentage of the tourist population to their doorsteps.
Throughout country areas in several states, talented artists have been commissioned to paint scenes reflecting the unique ethos of their small, tight-knit communities.
At thirty-five sites across rural Victoria, artists have painted scenes on art silos, many of which are still working silos, storing grain for farmers in the area.
Most of the scenes take your breath away with their depiction of life as it was in those harsh early days of settlement, with their perspective on life as it is today and with their unique ability to reproduce images of our distinctive wildlife.
They pay homage to our mounted solders, our nurses, our modern-day diggers and to our sheep, dray -pulling Clydesdale horses, faithful dogs and glider possums, azure kingfishers, our owls and galahs. This silo art needs to be experienced, as photos do not do them justice.
If you’re ever in Victoria, try to set a few days aside to take in this incredible art by following the Silo Art Trails across the rural areas of this state. Enjoy.
